About Gottlieb Duttweiler Institute

The Gottlieb Duttweiler Institute (GDI) in Rüschlikon near Zurich describes itself as Switzerland's first independent think tank. It works on future research and strategic foresight, with a focus on economic and social questions, retail, food and health.

GDI was founded in 1963 and is named after Gottlieb Duttweiler, the founder of Migros. In 1946 he and his wife Adele had given their Langhalden estate in Rüschlikon to the Im Grüene foundation, to which GDI belongs today. The institute is supported by the Migros Culture Percentage.

Its own events take place in Rüschlikon and online. They include the International Retail Summit, which held its 76th edition in 2026, the International Food Innovation Conference, first held in 2021, and free online lunchtalks.
