
About Thomas
Thomas Jordan led the Swiss National Bank as Chairman of the Governing Board from 2012 until 2024. He had joined the central bank in 1997 as an economic advisor and moved up through its research unit, the post of chief investment officer and the vice chairmanship.
At the SNB he also chaired the board of the SNB StabFund, the stabilisation fund created for UBS, and represented Switzerland at the IMF, the Bank for International Settlements and the Financial Stability Board. At the BIS he chaired the Banking and Risk Management Committee, at the FSB the Standing Committee on Budget and Resources.
He studied economics at the University of Bern, earned his doctorate there in 1993 and spent three years at Harvard as a visiting scholar and research fellow. The University of Bern made him an honorary professor in 2003, and the University of Basel awarded him an honorary doctorate in 2017.
Since leaving the SNB he has joined the boards of Zurich Insurance Group and Nestlé. He is also a Distinguished Fellow at Avenir Suisse.
