
About Sébastien
Sébastien Ragot is a partner and patent attorney at E. Blum, which he joined in 2015. He has been a European patent attorney since 2006 and a Swiss patent attorney since 2017, and he is on the French list of qualified industrial property professionals. Since 2019 he has advised start-ups on intellectual property as an Innosuisse coach.
His technical fields are materials science, information technology, artificial intelligence, quantum computing and physics. He handles patent drafting and prosecution, infringement and validity opinions, open-source and software copyright questions, and proceedings before the EPO.
Ragot has practised patent law since 2002. He worked at Hirsch & Partners in Paris and was in-house patent counsel at IBM Research in Zurich before moving to E. Blum. He earned his PhD in materials science at École Centrale Paris in 2001 and completed postgraduate studies in intellectual property at CEIPI in Strasbourg. He writes on measuring patents with data methods, for example in a 2024 paper in World Patent Information on gauging the scope of patent claims with large language models.
