About Rehana

Rehana Harasgama joined the Zurich office of Kellerhals Carrard as a partner in 2025. She advises on data and privacy, intellectual property, IT security and cybercrime, and she works with the firm's start-up and venture capital desk and on corporate and M&A matters.

She studied law at the University of St. Gallen, with an exchange semester at Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto, and earned her doctorate there in 2016. Her thesis, published by Dike in 2017, looks at how long the state may keep personal data, comparing Switzerland, the EU and the United States. During her doctorate she worked at the university's Research Center for Information Law and was a visiting doctoral candidate at the Berkman Klein Center at Harvard Law School.

She was data protection officer at Ernst & Young Switzerland, trained at VISCHER in Zurich and was admitted to the Zurich bar in 2019. From 2019 to 2025 she was an associate at Bär & Karrer, including a secondment to Bird & Bird in London in 2024.

She co-authored the Basler Kommentar and an online commentary on the Swiss Data Protection Act and teaches data protection and the regulation of the digital economy at the University of St. Gallen. She is a co-founder of the Swiss Association for AI Law.
