About Philipp
Philipp Furler is co-CEO and co-founder of Synhelion, which produces synthetic fuels with concentrated solar heat. The company was founded in 2016 as a spin-off of ETH Zurich and the German Aerospace Center (DLR). Furler shares the CEO role with co-founder Gianluca Ambrosetti.
In June 2024 Synhelion opened DAWN in Jülich, Germany, its first industrial plant for solar fuels. In 2026 it was selected for funding from North Rhine-Westphalia's Produktives.NRW programme to build a commercial plant next to it.
Furler has worked on high-temperature solar chemistry and reactor engineering for more than ten years. He earned his PhD in mechanical engineering at ETH Zurich with research on solar thermochemistry. He also co-founded Sunredox, another ETH spin-off, which later became part of Synhelion. He holds an Executive MBA from the University of Strathclyde.
