About Oliviana

Oliviana Calin-Eller is a European and Swiss patent attorney at E. Blum & Co. in Zurich, which she joined in 2021. She drafts and prosecutes patent applications in the life sciences, pharmacy, chemistry, chemical engineering and materials science, and she is a representative before the Unified Patent Court.

She has worked in patents since 2013, first at a German patent firm and then at SICPA. She qualified as a European patent attorney in 2017 and as a Swiss patent attorney in 2021. In 2018 she completed the CEIPI diploma in patent litigation in Europe.

Calin-Eller trained as a chemical engineer at the École Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Rennes and holds a master's degree in molecular chemistry from the University of Rennes. As a Marie Curie fellow she earned her doctorate from Freie Universität Berlin in 2012, with research on oligosaccharide synthesis at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces. Earlier she did research in medicinal chemistry at Sanofi-Aventis and in a CNRS team. Since 2022 she has taught patent law in the ZHAW course for IP paralegals.
