Moritz Hönig

Moritz Hönig is a European and Swiss patent attorney and a senior associate at Rentsch Partner AG, where he heads the start-up desk. His patent work covers chemistry, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medtech, energy and cleantech. He is also qualified as a European Patent Litigator.

Hönig studied chemistry and biochemistry at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, finishing his bachelor's in 2014, and earned a master's in chemistry at the University of Cambridge. His doctorate at ETH Zurich dealt with the synthesis of a complex natural product and a new chemical reaction. He joined Rentsch Partner in February 2020.

He tutors at CEIPI, the Centre for International Intellectual Property Studies of the University of Strasbourg. His articles cover topics such as licensing biotech research tools and the CRISPR/Cas9 priority case at the European Patent Office. For founders he has written practical tips on taking an international patent application into national phases.
