About Marissa

Marissa King is Professor of Leadership and Management at IMD. She studies how social networks and relationships shape the way people and teams work, with a particular focus on healthcare and on how artificial intelligence changes team design and collaboration.

She joined IMD in 2026 from the Wharton School, where she was the inaugural Alice Y. Hung President's Distinguished Professor and co-directed the health care lab of the Wharton AI and Analytics Initiative. Before that she was Professor of Organizational Behavior at the Yale School of Management. Her research has appeared in the Academy of Management Journal, Administrative Science Quarterly and Organization Science, and she has led several projects funded by the US National Institutes of Health.

Her book Social Chemistry: Decoding the Patterns of Human Connection was published by Dutton in 2021. She has advised companies including Apple, Microsoft, Johnson & Johnson and PepsiCo, as well as the World Bank. She holds a PhD from Columbia University and a BA from Reed College.
