About Mariana
Mariana Mazzucato is Professor in the Economics of Innovation and Public Value at University College London and the founding director of the UCL Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose, which she set up in 2017. She advises governments on growth that is driven by innovation and directed at public goals.
Her books include "The Entrepreneurial State" (2013), "The Value of Everything" (2018), "Mission Economy" (2021) and "The Big Con" (2023), written with Rosie Collington. Her latest, "The Common Good Economy: A New Compass", came out with Allen Lane in June 2026.
Mazzucato chairs the WHO Council on the Economics of Health for All and co-chairs the Global Commission on the Economics of Water. Pope Francis appointed her to the Pontifical Academy for Life. Her honours include the Leontief Prize in 2018, the title of Grande Ufficiale of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic in 2021 and a CBE for services to economics in 2025.
