About Lutz

Lutz Hegemann is President, Global Health and Swiss Country Affairs at Novartis. He is responsible for the company's work on malaria, neglected tropical diseases and non-communicable diseases such as sickle cell disease and cardiovascular disease, manages its presence in sub-Saharan Africa and represents Novartis in Switzerland.

He holds an MD and a PhD in molecular pharmacology from Utrecht University and began his career as a public health physician and scientist. He joined Novartis in 2005 in the Consumer Health division and has since worked in research and development, commercialisation, general management and corporate affairs. As chief operating officer of Global Health he led the discovery, development and delivery of treatments for malaria, leprosy, sickle cell disease and Chagas disease. He later headed Corporate Affairs and Global Health for the group.

He sits on the boards of PATH, the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute and the World Heart Federation, and he is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.
