
About Karl
Karl Schmedders is Professor of Finance at IMD in Lausanne, where he has taught since 2019. His research covers decision-making under uncertainty, the economics of climate change and the energy transition, and how physical and transition risks show up in finance. He also works on sustainability reporting standards such as TCFD, ISSB and CSRD/ESRS.
Before IMD he was Professor of Quantitative Business Administration at the University of Zurich. At the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University he was associate professor of managerial economics and decision sciences, and he still teaches there as visiting professor in the Executive MBA programme. He received Kellogg's L.G. Lavengood Professor of the Year award in 2002.
He holds a PhD and an MS in operations research from Stanford. He has published more than 50 articles in journals including Econometrica, the Journal of Finance and the Review of Financial Studies, and co-edited volume 3 of the Handbook of Computational Economics. He is a Fellow of the Game Theory Society and sits on the boards of LPX Group and SYLVA.
