Julien Lafargue is Chief Market Strategist at Barclays Private Bank and is responsible for the bank's investment views. With his team he builds its strategy around thematic and opportunistic ideas, and he contributes to the discretionary investment process.
He joined Barclays Private Bank in January 2019 as Head of Equity Strategy for the advisory business. Before that he spent eleven years at J.P. Morgan Private Bank as an equity strategist covering Europe, the Middle East and Africa. He is a CFA charterholder.
Lafargue comments on markets regularly in financial media, including CNBC and finews. In an August 2026 interview with finews he argued that without the investment wave in artificial intelligence, global growth would be markedly weaker. Whether it pays off for investors, in his view, depends on real productivity gains inside companies.
