
About Florian
Florian Heeb is Assistant Professor of Sustainable Finance at the Leibniz Institute for Financial Research SAFE in Frankfurt, a joint appointment with Goethe University that he took up in 2024. He is also a research affiliate at MIT Sloan. His research asks what sustainable investing actually changes in the real world and how investors take impact into account when they decide.
He is a co-author of "Do Investors Care About Impact?", published in the Review of Financial Studies in 2023, which won the FIR-PRI Finance and Sustainability Award. A second paper in the same journal, "Green Investing and Political Behavior", followed in 2026. His earlier article "Can Sustainable Investing Save the World?" appeared in Organization & Environment.
Before his postdoc at MIT Sloan he was chief operating officer of South Pole. Earlier he worked for the myclimate foundation, Pro Natura and Eawag. He holds a PhD in finance from the University of Zurich, an MSc in environmental sciences from ETH Zurich and a CAS in strategic management from the University of St. Gallen.
