Bert Verdonck

Bert Verdonck is CEO of the Luxembourg National Data Service (LNDS), the organisation Luxembourg set up so that data collected for one purpose can be reused safely for research, innovation and public policy.

He earned a PhD in medical image processing in 1993 and joined Philips in 1996. His career there ran through medical imaging and patient monitoring, the Healthcare at Home business and the management of a business unit, and ended on the company's data and AI strategy.

Since 2019 he has worked on European data spaces. He sits on the board of Gaia-X, the initiative for a federated and secure European data infrastructure. LNDS was legally established in 2022 and launched at the end of 2023, with secondary use of data as its mission.
