About Andrea
Andrea Lorenzo Capussela is an economist and a Visiting Fellow in the Department of Government at the London School of Economics. He works on freedom, power and economic growth.
From 2008 to 2011 he headed the economics unit of the International Civilian Office in Kosovo. He then advised Moldova's minister of economy on behalf of the European Union. He holds a PhD in international law with a thesis on competition policy.
His books include "State-Building in Kosovo" from 2015 and "The Political Economy of Italy's Decline" with Oxford University Press in 2018. His latest, "The Republic of Innovation: A New Political Economy of Freedom", came out with Polity in November 2025. The Financial Times picked it as one of its best summer books on economics for 2026. Its argument is that concentrated, entrenched economic power turns into political influence and slows down innovation.
