Andrea Carreira

Andrea Carreira is a partner at Rentsch Partner AG and a European and Swiss patent attorney. She works in the life sciences, covering chemistry, biochemistry and molecular biology, and advises on patent strategy, freedom to operate, opposition proceedings and the build-up of patent portfolios.

She studied chemistry at ETH Zurich and earned her PhD at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with research on polymers for drug delivery. A postdoctoral position at the California Institute of Technology followed. She then worked as a patent agent at a law firm in Los Angeles, spent two years in the patent department of a pharmaceutical company in Basel and ten years as a senior advisor at a Zurich patent and trademark firm. She joined Rentsch Partner in November 2012.

Carreira co-authored the fourth edition of the handbook "Schweizerisches und europäisches Patent- und Patentprozessrecht", published in 2021, and is listed in the IAM Patent 1000. As an Innosuisse Special Coach she advises start-ups on their IP strategy.

She regularly gives Venturelab workshops on IP strategy for life sciences start-ups, together with colleagues from Rentsch Partner.
