About EPFL AI Center
The EPFL AI Center is the hub for artificial intelligence at the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). It opened in November 2023 and brings together more than 100 EPFL professors working in AI. Professors Pascal Frossard and Marcel Salathé co-direct it.
Its mission rests on research, education and innovation. The centre coordinates AI teaching across EPFL and links researchers with companies and public bodies, for example through an industry partnership programme and an AI track of the EPFL Startup Launchpad.
ETH Zurich and EPFL founded the Swiss National AI Institute (SNAI) in 2024, building on their two AI centres. Through SNAI, the EPFL AI Center and the ETH AI Center run the Swiss AI Initiative, which develops open large language models and holds the Open LLM Builders Summit. The EPFL AI Center also organises the AMLD Intelligence Summit in Lausanne. Further projects include the Geneva AI Initiative and a citizens' assembly on AI.
