AWS

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the cloud computing business of Amazon. Since its launch in 2006 it has offered cloud services on demand, billed by use, to companies, public bodies and individuals.

AWS opened an office in Zurich in 2016 and one in Geneva in 2017. In November 2022 it launched the AWS Europe (Zurich) Region with three availability zones. At the time it said it planned to invest about USD 5.9 billion in Switzerland over the following 15 years.

For startups AWS runs the Activate programme, which gives young companies cloud credits and technical support. In Switzerland it has also run startup programmes together with Venturelab.
