
About Prof.
Markus Leippold is Professor of Financial Engineering at the University of Zurich and holds a Senior Chair at the Swiss Finance Institute. He also directs the university's Master of Advanced Studies in Finance.
His earlier research dealt with asset pricing, portfolio allocation and risk management. Today he works mainly on climate finance, sustainability and artificial intelligence, especially language models applied to corporate climate communication, climate lobbying and green innovation. He co-authored ClimateBert, a language model trained on climate-related text, and ChatClimate, a conversational AI grounded in climate science that was published in Communications Earth & Environment in 2023.
He earned his PhD at the University of St. Gallen and was on the faculty of Imperial College London. He has done a research stay at Google, co-founded the sustainable investment platform Frigg and sits on the advisory board of Inovest. In 2024 he received a Climate Arc grant to build AI tools for InfluenceMap together with the University of Oxford.
