About Prof.

Judith Walls is Professor of Sustainability Management at the University of St. Gallen, where she has held the chair since February 2019. She is one of three directors of RISE-HSG, the Institute for Responsible Innovation, Sustainability and Energy launched in February 2026, and serves as the university's delegate for responsibility and sustainability.

Her research looks at how corporate governance shapes environmental and social performance, and at how CEOs and boards decide on sustainability. Her 2012 paper in the Strategic Management Journal asked whether there is really a link between corporate governance and environmental performance.

Outside academia, Walls worked for Thomson Reuters for seven years, first as director of research and consulting in London, then as vice president of new business development for Asia-Pacific. After a PhD at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2007 and a postdoc at the Erb Institute of the University of Michigan, she taught at Concordia University in Montreal from 2009 and at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore from 2013. She also holds an MBA from the National University of Singapore.
