About Prof.
David N. Bresch is Professor for Weather and Climate Risks at ETH Zürich, a joint chair with MeteoSwiss that he has held since 2016. His research looks at how weather and climate affect socio-economic systems. His group develops CLIMADA, an open-source platform for assessing climate risk and appraising adaptation options.
He came to the chair from Swiss Re, where he worked from 2000 to 2016. He started as an expert in atmospheric perils, became chief natural catastrophe modeller and from 2008 to 2015 was global head of sustainability and emerging risk management. Before that he was a postdoctoral researcher at MIT, after a PhD in natural sciences and an MSc in physics at ETH Zürich.
At ETH he headed the Institute for Environmental Decisions from 2017 to 2023. In 2022 he co-founded CLIMADA Technologies, which he chairs, and he sits on the advisory board of the Dutch research institute Deltares.
